Founder Spotlight: Tusdatos.co

Tusdatos.co is a Colombian based SaaS company that helps companies hire trustworthy employees in a more time-efficient manner. Their product is uniquely positioned to support the changing demands of the modern workplace, one that is progressively more remote. Tusdatos.co is on track to exceed $1M ARR this year and has found profitability.

"Helping companies manage risks and reduce vulnerabilities did not seem like a job - it was exciting and motivating. During my early career, I could help at most 20 companies a year, and at Tusdatos.co we help thousands. We give them a more comprehensive and secure onboarding, screen third parties in seconds, and we ensure our current and future clients reduce fraud and operate safely." - Santiago Hernández, Co-Founder and CEO of Tusdatos.co

Future of work

The Great Resignation marked a changing tide in how we work, where we live, and the expectations we have for our careers. The causes are many: pent-up intent to resign; burnout from surging workloads; women pivoting to a role as caregivers; or a preference for a more flexible way to work.

The impact has been a talent war, forcing employers to fine tune their recruitment strategy. Meal perks and kombucha on tap at the office, while enticing, fall short given 61% of the workforce has decided to work from home by choice (Pew Research). Employees need a fulfilling career, and employers need the right process in place to properly vet candidates to ensure a win-win relationship.

Building remote teams

Good companies do three things to attract and retain talent.

  • Craft a clear policy around remote work. Say what you will about Elon Musk’s rigid policy (Forbes), there is value in setting clear expectations that employees must be in the office. Brian Chesky’s remote-friendly approach, meanwhile, is more in line with the trending shift towards remote-friendly and hybrid work. Regardless of the policy, making a decision drives alignment and ensures a proper employee <> employer match.
  • Establish rigorous hiring processes. Bad hiring decisions are expensive, one estimate (Northwestern) says it could represent one third of the hire’s annual salary. A well coordinated hiring process removes the subjectivity from hiring.
  • Evaluate for trustworthiness. With so many employees working remotely, building trust becomes vitally important. Speaking with employee references and running comprehensive background checks during the hiring process helps reduce the risk that a new hire is unscrupulous or unreliable. This is where Tusdatos.co comes in.

Trust comes first. Hiring managers, of course, are gauging experience and aptitude, but they are also assessing the candidate’s alignment with the values of the organization. After all, from Day 1 they must begin to learn the ropes of the organization while building rapport and trust with their peers, leaders, or even direct reports. Hiring rubrics and predefined questions provide companies a peek into how candidates think, and Tusdatos.co elicits a clearer understanding of the individual’s past through a background check. These reports scan civil and criminal records, giving a 360 perspective that cannot be found via interviews and exercises.

Efficiency as a bonus. When businesses put Tusdatos.co in place, they are replacing outdated, inefficient systems for background checks (or non-existent ones). These systems are manual and prone to error, and they fail to centralize all the information on a candidate in one place. Tusdatos.co performs one thorough check using Know Your Customer functionality, Anti-Money Laundering prevention, and identity validation in one click. The end result? Businesses mitigate the risk of having an incomplete picture of the candidate, helping clients stay safe, reduce fraud, and avoid the costs of poor hiring decisions. What is more, Tusdatos.co slashes lengthy wait times for background checks. What previously took companies 20 minutes per query now takes less than one minute. This is a key win for businesses, especially those conducting tens or even hundreds of hires at once.

The founders behind the magic

Santiago Hernández has been in cybersecurity for more than 12 years. Hailing from Bogotá, Colombia, he ran an information security consulting business where the idea of Tusdatos.co came about. He saw the opportunity to reach more businesses, and in a way their needs were not being met by the market. His Co-Founder David Vásquez, Chief Product Officer, is an Aeronautical engineer with experience in unmanned systems management, operation and design.

We look forward to supporting Tusdatos.co on their journey scaling throughout Latam, and helping countless businesses operate safely and efficiently.
